SEBASTIAN MONTIEL

Sebastian Montiel is a Canadian-Mexican-Colombian Director of Photography, shaped by a life between cultures and a love for visual storytelling.

He first picked up a camera while studying Communication and Digital Media in Mexico, drawn to the power of still images. However, it was at Toronto Film School, where he graduated with honours in Film Production, that he truly found his voice behind the lens.

Sebastian’s experience spans a range of roles on set, including AC to Grip amongst others, all of which have shaped his technical skills and versatility as a cinematographer. With a strong foundation in lighting, composition, and camera work, his approach is defined by a bold, intuitive style and a focus on emotionally resonant visuals.

A NABET 700-M UNIFOR Grip Permittee and Companion Member of the Canadian Society of Cinematographers (CSC), Sebastian is always chasing light, honesty, and the perfect frame, continuously refining his craft to create imagery that feels authentic, cinematic, and true.
