SEBASTIAN MONTIEL

Sebastian Montiel is a Canadian-Mexican-Colombian Director of Photography and Director based in Toronto. Shaped by a life between cultures, his work is driven by a passion for visual storytelling and a fascination with raw, visceral imagery that feels both cinematic and deeply human through bold imagery, expressive lighting, and a cinematic approach to composition.

A graduate of Toronto Film School's Film Production program with honours, Sebastian developed his craft through hands-on experience across multiple departments before focusing on cinematography and directing. That foundation informs a collaborative approach and a deep understanding of the filmmaking process from concept through completion.

Working across narrative, commercial, documentary, music, and editorial projects, Sebastian creates images that are visually striking while remaining grounded in emotion and authenticity. Influenced by cinema, photography, fashion, and contemporary art, his work balances technical precision with instinct, always in service of the story.

His approach is driven by curiosity, atmosphere, and the belief that powerful imagery can communicate what words cannot.
